MOVIE REVIEW: Odunlade Adekola’s ‘THE VENDOR’ Is Far from What We Expected!

Let me start by telling you that Nollywood sweetheart, Odunlade Adekola will rake in millions anytime he releases a movie at the cinemas. Whether the movie is cinema-worthy or not is a different tale. The fans love Odunlade Adekola! Nevertheless, below is what I think of ‘The Vendor’.

‘The Vendor’ follows the story of Gbadebo, a vendor who looks at low positions with disdain and has high hopes of making something out of his life. He has a humorous personality which endears him to his customers. He goes through different ups and downs in life until he is led to cross path with an attractive benefactor and finally hits a jackpot when he meets his wealthy biological father. The discovery turns his life around.

As a comedy, ‘The Vendor’ scores above average because it really does make you laugh. Simply put, the movie is a funny one. But is it cinema-worthy? Of course not! Did the audience like it? No, they loved it! The entire hall found the movie hilarious. Now that is what a work of comedy should do to its audience. Make them roll with laughter.

My major issue with the movie is the storyline; the story had no proper structure, it was nowhere near solid, and the production seemed rushed. Most of the scenes had a ‘comedy skit feel’.

If I got a chance to say something to Odunlade Adekola, I’d simply ask

MOVIE REVIEW: From Lagos We Bring You Love & Nothing but Good Tidings

‘From Lagos with Love’ follows the story of a family reunion which exposes secrets and truths untold. This family movie shows the turmoil in a ‘happy family’, demons we face individually and the power of love.

Did I enjoy watching this movie? Now that is the word- ENJOYABLE! From Lagos with Love is a must-watch. It tells a story that is very relatable in a sophisticated way. Picture quality, costuming and editing were on point. Acting, which of course is the most important, was great; the characters were believable.  I particularly enjoyed watching one of the lead characters, 'Ify' played by Enado Odigie; she is the star of the film. She delivered her role in such a way that I almost forgot it was a movie.

I noticed some dry scenes which made little or no sense

MOVIE REVIEW: ‘FUNKE’ Is The Reason You Should Never Judge A Book By Its Cover!

I’ll start by informing you that ‘FUNKE’ is not your conventional Nollywood story. I simply wasn’t prepared for what I saw at the cinema; the poster doesn’t in anyway give the movie away. I was surprised in a good way, and I must commend Miracle Inyanda who played FUNKE. She did justice to her role and made the experience worth my while.

Let me give you a synopsis of the movie. The story follows Funke’s life and people who are close to her. It shows her struggles in finding success as a footballer during a period when it was predominantly considered a man’s game.

I enjoyed watching ‘FUNKE’ struggle with life’s challenges and eventually overcoming them. I also loved the fact that even though it wasn’t an extraordinary story, it seemed like one because it wasn’t exaggerated or forced. This was a simply story put together in a refreshing way.

Of course, I noticed some errors especially

Fashion Meets History: The Story of Western House, Lagos

Western House, an 18-storey high-rise building was a wonder to behold when it opened on Broad Street, Lagos Island in the year 1958. It was the first modern building which opened up on two different streets. From the Broad street end, you walked up a flight of 22 steps into a reception area and then a mall. The most glittering shop then was the Glendora Bookshop. Then there was the coffee shop where young Lagos elite and upwardly mobile came for dates.

There had been nothing quite like Western House before S.O Shonibare and the NIPC made it happen. The building was unique because it was a prime address that housed a shopping mall, a huge office complex and residential quarters at the top. With the establishment of Western House which signalled the dawn of a Modern Central Business District, Shonibare and the NIPC had become the builders of modern Nigeria.

When Western House opened, it attracted the cream of corporate Nigeria. Every company worth its salt and

Omoni Oboli’s MOMS AT WAR Gives New ‘Adeniny’ To Nollywood

MOMS AT WAR has simply come to school us all on what a cinema- worthy movie ought to look like! Before anything else, let me give you a synopsis of this great film.

Moms At War tells the story of Olaide and Ebubechukwu, two mothers who would do anything for their children. Omoni Oboli stars as Ebubechukwu, a posh career woman who was born with a silver spoon and expects her only daughter to follow in her footsteps. Funke Akindele stars as Olaide, a self made woman who built herself up from nothing to raise her son and give him the life she did not have. With their children competing for a place in a prestigious scholars program, everything starts to derail as the mothers go head to head to ensure that their individual child wins.

First off, this movie is in a class of its own “patapata”. It isn’t of the same category as all the ‘jagbajantis’ that have been served to us as comedy in recent times. The story is quite unique and very unpredictable, continuity was on point, costuming, very commendable, and the characters were more than believable.

To be honest, MOMS AT WAR was so good, I forgot to look out for errors. I still can’t point out any error. Not one! I am usually quick to pick out errors while watching films, but this one “pass me”.

If at this point, you are still expecting me to share spoilers from this movie, you are on a long thing. MOMS AT WAR is that one movie which gets an A1 from me. Unbelievable right? I could watch this film 100 times and not get bored at all. This has little or nothing to do with the hype around it, but the

MOVIE REVIEW: Seven AND A HALF dates Reminds Us Why Toyin Abraham is The REAL DEAL

Seven AND A HALF dates follows the story of a young hardworking lady, Bisola who is engrossed in her career and finds herself in a seemingly unending quest for love. Her father, Mr Gomez comes to her rescue and inspired by the game of chess, sets Bisola up on ten different dates which he hopes one of them yields a good prospect.

Permit me to give you a very honest and impartial review. Seven AND A HALF dates is basically a feel good movie which stars some of the most creative Nollywood actors.

This satirical work of art is a romantic comedy which sends a very serious message about domestic violence in a refreshing manner. The lead actors ensured we got the message WELL! Sola Sobowale, Mercy Johnson, and Toyin Abraham deserve some accolades for entertaining as well as educating us at the same time. I was particularly impressed by Toyin Abraham’s ‘Biodun, the annoying and talkative shop assistant character’. She was in total control, in her usual dramatic fashion, but this time not exaggerated. She gave off the feeling that she had been listening to critics as regards her role delivery in some movies which were characterized with overacting and exaggerated lines.

I wasn’t impressed with some elements which I must note here. I thought the picture quality of this film could have been better, and costuming, more sophisticated. I just couldn’t comprehend
