"Delta State Has The Best Teaching Hospital In Nigeria" – Chike Ogeah
Lawyer and psychologist, Barr. Christopher Chike Ogeah who is also the Delta State Commissioner for Information was at the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) National Awards which took place on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja where Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan was honored with an award. The former Managing Director/CEO at the Skypower Aviation Handling Company spoke to Qismat Yinus in a brief chat after the event. Enjoy!
I think it was very commendable. It is good that women in journalism are asserting themselves. You educate a woman, you educate the society. It was an exceptional award ceremony. They have looked across board and they have identified the recipients. For instance, in Delta state we didn't even know they came to see the good works of the Governor of the state.
You just mentioned the good works of Governor Uduaghan, can you tell us more about these works?
Delta state has about fifteen big towns, and yet the development has spread across all these towns. We have developed most likely the best modern health care system in the country. We have built a vast network of roads and bridges connecting communities that had never been connected to themselves. Don't forget that Delta state is 40 percent riverine. We have done so much in transformation. We have built a first class airport in Asaba,we have also upgraded the second airport. Delta is the only state that has two airports as we speak. It's just a total construction that is going on in Delta state. The Governor is a medical doctor, and we see a bit of bias in the health care delivery system. You saw the first kidney transplant that took place in Oghara teaching hospital. That hospital right now is the best teaching hospital in Nigeria. We are just turning things around. Our Mantra of Delta Beyond Oil is what has made us diversified our economy.
