Femi Adebayo is a popular yoruba actor and son of Veteran actor, Adebayo Salami,a.k.a Oga Bello. The very talented and creative actor also known as 'Jelili' has produced a couple of movies and has been able to carve a niche for himself in the movie industry in Nigeria. Femi who was once rumored to have been in a relationship with Funke Akindele explains the inspiration behind his movie 'Jelili' in this exclusive chat with Qismat Yinus.
What inspired the movie Jelili?
I just wanted to prove the versatility in me. I wanted to play a comedy role that would make people see and appreciate the other side of me. Also at that time that I released Jelili, there was so much tension in the society, and I felt like contributing my quota and help people release their tension.
Were you trying to follow the trend set by Funke Akindele with her movie 'Jenifa'?
Definitely not. I just told you the reason behind Jelili. After I did Jelili, I produced another movie which is not a comedy flick. It was about butchers and titled 'Alapata'. Every writer has a reason for writing a particular story at a particular time for their target audience. Definitely I wasn't following any norm, I was only trying to prove a point that I am versatile, which I did.
